To the President with Love

military parade in belgrade

Today, Belgrade looked and felt like occupied city. Ironically, since the motive for the occupation was a celebration of seventy years since the liberation in World War Two. Of course it was marvelous, grandiose and impressive! It had to be, for the eyes and souls of our officials and our beloved guest, Mr. Putin.
This was the parade: masculine, full of adrenaline, sweat and smell of gasoline. Luckily, there was a bit of rain, just to cool down all that glowing steel.
Everyone got their share of patriotism and pieces of illusion, fascinated by the loud engines and ripping jets. And they all went home happy. They really did!
Just a handful was upset and angry. Just a few noticed how hard it was to function today in Belgrade, because they told us it’s important to have just a little patience. Anyway, it’s the most valuable thing in Serbia, for years and decades.
The parade is over. Tired soldier can finally get some quality sleep, since the enemy is sleeping too. Well, you never know, but it makes it much easier when you do know who is watching over you, especially now, when we managed to show ourselves in such a good light.
And, how much did it cost? They will say, while drinking strong and bitter morning coffee, it was worth every shining ruble…
