Pursuit of Freedom, by Igor Pavićević

They boarded the train in hope that freedom was closer then ever before on the long journey they had passed so far.

Tired bodies, tired thoughts. The only food to feed their exhausted souls was the idea of new life they were approaching. They even did not notice the proof of segregation my colleague journalist and I could not miss – they were separated from “regular passengers” in this train. It seemed that they had left the notion of a normal life at their abandoned homes, and that it might start again at one point when they cross the border of the EU. On the same evening, the first EU country on their way – Hungary, announced that it would build a wall to prevent them from entering.

This is when I wondered if freedom for these people exists at all. Or does it exist for any of us?
